THE PROJECT:
Working in small, integrated interdisciplinary teams, we used our case study analysis and examples of plywood-based construction systems to develop a demountable plywood building system that can be applied to a place-making structure.
The system will be developed as a reusable kit of parts that can be adapted and reconfigured for different sites, dimensions, and uses, while meeting the requirements of the LIMINAL Festival and Philomath clients.
The goal is to translate principles from the case studies into a new design and explore how a limited set of plywood components and connections can create different configurations.
The main question:
How can principles from the case studies be transformed into a limited set of plywood components and connections that can be assembled, disassembled, and reconfigured to create a versatile structural system adaptable to different contexts?
We worked as an integrated team throughout the process: material and fabrication decisions informing structural decisions, structural decisions should inform architectural configuration, and architectural requirements should inform the kit-of-parts system.
