The Star Gazer

From our initial development of ideas to the first and second design stages, material availability, CNC cut abilities lead our group to simplify out panel design to 12 members total. Physically building our design led us to learn about the complications of cut files and orientations of our model. We found that flipping out panel upside-down is better supported on the frame and through many brainstormed ideas for the supports, we landed on 6 exterior supports on the frame that sit on cuts that fit into the frame of the panel. Although our design was deemed the simplest to be built, this process has given us experience with handling MPP and feeling the density of the material, as well as the intricacies of using the CNC for our cuts and has shown us that even “simple designs” can be complex in fabrication.
