RESPONSE: Most of the comments during our review related to the size and weatherproofing strategies for our pavilion. We currently fill the site with roughly a 24′ bent stretching into a 38′ bent East to West. Reviewers and students admired the elegance and subtlety, but urged us to downsize for manageable spans and assembly. We plan to determine the maximum span of the reclaimed glulams and use this dimension to inform our plan organization. As for weatherproofing, comments fixated on exposed connections. Adding a metal cap would protect the end grain and accent the expression, similar to the point of Japanese gabled roof. We are seeking more feedback on the overall weatherproofing strategy. Incorporating a curved form (as shown in the section) may prove difficult to assemble.
