After gaining inspiration from raw-wood precedents like the Roundwood House by Rural Studio, we have been developing a system for using timber poles in their most structural and natural form. The unique hollow steel tube connection was a low-stress precursor to our current modular steel connection, and promises to provide a mass-producible system for connecting unprocessed timber. The system of constructing a canopy for tenant-built units leads to the idea of participatory architecture wherein a community of individuals come together and build their collective future. Through the development of a parametric system and phased construction timeline, we have landed on a good mix of designed structure and pride in ownership.
